With Nigeria’s 2027 General Elections scheduled for January 2027 and
formal campaigns commencing in August 2026, the country is already in
the throes of intense political activity. This policy brief interrogates the
central tension in Nigerian democratic politics: whether the pre-election
period of 2026 will be defined by substantive governance delivery or by
strategic electoral manoeuvring.
